Innovating: Xcommerce and Magento

Just back from the Xcommerce Innovate 2011 conference and before I left I thought:
Ebay + Paypal + Magento = Xcommerce.

At the conference I realized it was so much more.
Xcommerce = Ebay + Paypal + Magento + GSI Commerce + Milo + Where + RedLaserApp
+ an amazing staff at X.com with great resources
+ an incredible community of smart, energetic and friendly developers

Here’s what else I learned:

Conferences are more fun with Twitter

It was a true meeting of community as we were all tweeted to win the top 10 spots on the leader board. The Daily winners were @DeveloperSteve and @brentwpeterson (yes it was a daily leaderboard or maybe some of use others would have got on it :( ). Good mentions to @WebShopApps, @ppalavilli and #frogtwit. We even started a tweetup pre-party #preInnovate that was community sponsored with over 150 attendees including Roy Rubin and Bob Schwartz.

Paypal and Ebay know how to through a conference

Innovate was exciting and informative but most of all it was fun. There were beanbags and pool tables, xbox and massages in the Alumni Lounge. And I didn’t even mention the party with the Shins, Sumo Wrestling and GoCarts. Or the after party. It was developer’s playground.

They want developers to make money

There is a lot energy around developers at x.com and numerous programs you can join to get started monetizing the platform.

The XCommerce Fabric is a message bus

That’s right – the mystery broken down. Xcommerce is a message bus that you can register capabilities with to send and listen for messages. All the ebay properties (Magento, Paypal, Milo, Where, Kenshoo) + others can plugin to this.

Stay tuned for more on Xcommerce and Magento – my next post!
